Machakos County water sector has been greatly boosted after the National Drought Management Authority injected Kes. 65M in surface and underground water projects.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who hosted officials from the NDMA and other stakeholders in Water, Lands, and Agriculture sectors said the initiative will help her agenda of transforming food production through enhanced water harvesting.
The Kenya Cereals Enhancement Program-Climate Resilient Agricultural Livelihoods program is ongoing in eight counties across the country, Machakos included.
Governor Wavinya noted the program also includes 108 additional farm ponds that will improve the capacity of households to undertake subsistence farming.
“These efforts will enable us to achieve our ‘Chakula Mezani Pesa Mfukoni’ vision and welcome partners to come on board,” said Wavinya.
She noted that the construction of Miwongoni and Kyai dams in Machakos Sub County will eliminate the perennial water shortage in Machakos town.
